Anu Malhotra is one of India’s noteworthy filmmakers, she has won over 17 National awards and International recognition for her insightful documentaries, trend setting television programming and impactful awareness campaigns.
Anu set up AIM Television in 1994 to create meaningful and uplifting television content for Indian television channels (Zee, Sony and DD) and international channels (BBC, Discovery, Travel Channel U.K., France 5 et al.), creating over 600 hours of quality non-fiction programmes.
A pioneer of the travel, fashion and lifestyle genre on Indian television, Anu created unique formats, producing, directing and writing several acclaimed and popular television shows like Namaste India, Indian Holiday, Khubsoorat, Jhatpat Khanna, and Breakfast with Zee et. al.
Anu created several captivating commercials and promotional films, for the Department of Tourism, to market India’s tourism potential abroad. The first series of the Incredible India films were created by Anu - a slogan, which was coined by her!
Post 2000, Anu defined the landscape of socio-cultural documentaries with her path-breaking films, The Apatani of Arunachal Pradesh, The Konyak of Nagaland, The Maharaja of Jodhpur, and Shamans of the Himalayas – all seminal pieces of work, showcasing unique cultures and wisdom traditions of India.
Anu also served as the Creative Head during 2005-2006 for the BBC World Service Trust’s India Project, with a mission of raising awareness about HIV/AIDS in India. She designed and directed a Behaviour Change Communication Project, Haath Se Haath Milaa - a 52 episodes television series involving 50 of Bollywood’s top celebrities, which won her the UNAIDS Global Award (2007).
Since 2010, Anu’s creative spirit has found expression in Art. In 2011, Anu showcased her first solo photography multimedia exhibition, titled ‘Soul Survivors’ at the National Museum, New Delhi, for a month in May.
Besides her excellence as a film maker, photographer and artist, Anu is also a competent writer and writes all her own scripts as well as travel articles for newspapers and magazines. She was a columnist with Hindustan Times and wrote a column, ‘Travels with my Camera’ in 2003. Her book, titled Soul Survivors, is being published by Academic Foundation in October, 2018, which will be followed up by her second book Shamans of the Himalayas in 2019.
